Allan Johnson <ajohnson@magma.ca>
Quebec Canada -

My grandparents, Böðvar Jónsson and Guðrún Tómásdóttir emmigrated to Canada in 1886.

Böðvar was born in Auðsholti in Ölfusi in Árnessýsla in Iceland, on May 23 1869. His parents were Jón Saemundsson, a farmer in Búrfelli, Grimsnesi, and his mother was Ingibjorg Böðvarsdöttir from Reyðarvatni at Rangávöllum. Böðvar lived with his parents on a prosperous farm in Auðsholti, until his father was lost at sea in 1883, in one of the worst storms of the century. Ingibjorg moved to Canada with her parents and four of her children in 1886.

Guðrún was born in Littlamóti in Flóa in Árnessýsla in Iceland on September 26 1864. Her parents, Tómás Ingimundarson and Guðrún Eyólfsdöttir, lived first at Littlamóti and later moved to Egilsstöðum in Ölfusi in Árnessýsla.

In 1886, Guðrún moved to Canada with her parents and siblings (Jóni, Eyólfi, Bjarni, Guðfinnu, Ragnheiði, Katrinu, and Guðrún, the younger).

Since both of them were born and lived in the county Arnessysla, I thought you might let me know how I might find out more about my roots in Iceland and perhaps locate relatives who still live there.

Your site is the only hit I get when I type "Arnessysla" into the Internet search engines. Also, I haven't yet pinpointed the location of Arnessysla, since the name doesn't appear on maps that I have found on the Internet. I have just started this search, so I expect I'll find something.

Best wishes!
Dr. Allan M. Johnson

Aircraft tires work great on all types of farm equipment. Due to their heavy plies these tires are virtually falt proof, and that will save you money and down time. These tires also have a load carrying capacity that cant be matched by conventional tires. For more info please call 607.280.2853 or email DmcOwen424@aol.com

Ég hef lengi ætlað mér að skoða "Húsið" en aldrei látið verða af því. Hinsvegar hef ég látið verða af því að skoða annað hús sem hefur verið nefnt "Heiðdalshús" til minningar um afa minn Sigurð Heiðdal sem var fyrsti forstjóri fangahælisins á Litla Hrauni og bjó í þessu húsi, sennilega á árunum 1930 - 1940. Húsið er í sjálfu sér ekkert sérstakt en ég skoðaði það í fylgd með föður mínum sem ólst þar upp sem barn og hann kunni frá mörgu að segja. Þetta var fyrir mig, persónulega, heil upplifun.
Ég kem við í "Húsinu" næst þegar ég verð á ferðinni þarna um.

Kveðja

Dear Lydour Palsson,

A little while ago you were kind enough to inform me that the museum is preparing further work on the history of the house, especially regarding the period when my ancestors were living in it . I wonder how you are getting on and do you know when this material will bwe ready?.. I would be very interested to know if historical source materials there might be aboput this period so that I might be able to research them myself. I expect you know quite a bit about this. In the meanwhile good luck with your work

Til hamingju með glæsilega heimasíðu. Gaman hefði verið að geta séð fleiri dæmi um safngripi og frá hvaða tímabilum þeir eru. Gott væri að vita örlítið meira um safngripi til að lokka mann á staðinn. Takk samt

Til hamingju með breytingarnar á vefnum ykkar, gott að geta nú loks skrifað í gestabók Hússins á Netinu.

Kveðja,

- Arnar
